Cake keeps the magic going
Last night at the National in Richmond was just flat out magical. The energy, passion and connection between John McCrea and the audience was fantastic. The 1,500 capacity theater was completely sold out and unless if you were one of the first to get in then the second floor was your best bet. I would like to note that the seating, lights, and especially the sound system at the National were astounding. Sol Invictus touched a little bit on each of their albums throughout the night. I want a girl who stays up late. Thumping along to their first radio hit "Rock 'n' Roll Lifestyle". As for the performance, words cannot do justice. The magic was further prolonged by "Sheep go to Heaven" and of course one of the encore choices was their biggest single, "The Distance". There is an under appreciated beauty in the lyricism and "Sprechgesang" vocals of lead singer John McCrea. Despite the crowd's initial reluctance to partake in the performance, after a few drinks and a brief intermission everyone was singing along. Sol Invictus concert!
